How to Configure Linksys SPA IP Phones?

Linksys SPA IP phones are popularly used in business environment as IP extensions of Orionox IPX systems. On the Orionox IPX, you need to define an IP extension for the IP phone in "Basic Voice > Extensions > IP Extensions". The extension number and password are the authentication data when an IP phone registers with the Orionox IPX.

Linksys SPA IP phone should have network connectivity to the Orionox IPX. When the IP phone reaches the IPX through IPX LAN port, the IPX LAN IP address will be used as the SIP server address. When it reaches the IPX through IPX WAN port, the IPX LAN IP address will be used as the SIP server address. If the Linksys IP phone reaches the IPX from public Internet, you will need to use the IPX's domain name as the SIP server address. Make sure the IPX is on the public Internet (or as a DMZ host of an ADSL router).

Basic configuration on the Linksys IP phone is simple. You need to login to the Linksys IP phone as "administrator". You go to Ext 1 configuration page to set up the IP phone as illustrated in the following diagram.

8060 is the SIP port that is selected by the Orionox IPX;
192.168.6.1 is the IPX LAN port IP address. It can be "abcd.myIPX.net" if the IP phone reaches the IPX from public network;
Display Name, User ID (which is the IP extension number in the IPX), and the password should be the same as the IP extension definition in the IPX system.
G729a is a preferred codec. Other codec are also ok to choose.

Other setting is not mandatory, but helpful such as: System/Primary NTP Server to be "pool.ntp.org", Regional/Timezone to be your local zone.
Linksys IP phone software should be upgraded to version 5.1.8 or later from Linksys technical support website.
